About the award

The John A. Garza Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges significant past and present Human Resources (HR); EEO/AA; and Diversity accomplishments and continuing contributions by an exceptional practitioner in the field of HR, EEO/AA, or Diversity.

An Exceptional Award to Honor an Exceptional Leader - John A. Garza Recognition Award

The Arizona Industry Liaison Group (AZilg), Officers and Board of Directors have established this Lifetime Achievement Award in honor John A. Garza, President, JAG Specialties, LLC. Mr. Garza’s dedication to the principles of equal employment opportunity/affirmative action and diversity span a period of over 38 years. He has been a member of the AZilg (formerly, Arizona Affirmative Action Association or Quad A) since 1975 and has served, as Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, Past President and President of this association since 1999.

This is an annual recognition award and will be presented at the annual AZilg Conference in the fall of each year. Award recipients will also receive a lifetime membership to AZilg.

What is the deadline to submit a nomination?

Nominations should be submitted no later than June 15th. Please send your nomination using our online submission form, by e-mail (jagaward@azilg.org).*

 

Where can I read about previous recipients of the award?

Profiles of past recipients of the award are featured on the AZilg website.  Each profile includes information on the accomplishments of the recipient and will provide a benchmark of achievement that the selection committee considers during its deliberations.

 

Can I nominate more than one individual?

Yes. An individual may submit or co-sign the nomination of more than one candidate.

Are there any limitations on whom I can nominate?

This award is open to those who meet the eligibility requirements as noted on the nomination form.  Self-nominations are welcome.

 

Can I nominate someone who works in a different state than Arizona?

Yes, any qualified practitioner within the US is eligible for nomination.

 

Who is eligible to be nominated?

The nature of the award is to recognize significant contributions to the EEO/AA/Diversity and HR field through dynamic lifetime/career achievements and its application to the practice. To be eligible, the nominee must possess a broad and significant track record of contributing to the HR discipline. Additionally, the nominee must have interactions with the practitioner community, as evidenced, for example, by HR memberships and/or working with practitioners in their daily HR practice.

What should the nomination package include?

A complete nomination package must include the nomination form, a current detailed résumé, and a nomination letter of no more than two pages in length that include:

  • A summary of the nominee's significant past and continuing contributions related to the HR field
  • A detailed narrative description of the reasons why the individual is being nominated
  • A statement that highlights the nominee's interaction with and effect upon HR practitioners
